What vinyl means on a sticker

Every sticker we print is vinyl: a thin, flexible film that the ink is printed onto, sealed under a UV laminate and backed with adhesive. The film bends with the surface instead of creasing, the laminate keeps water and scratches off the ink, and the result is a sticker that behaves like part of the object rather than a label stuck on top of it.

That is the difference from paper stickers. Paper soaks up water, tears at the edges and fades in a sunny window; laminated vinyl does none of those things, which is why it is the material behind every shape and size in our calculator.

Gloss, matte or clear

The configurator above opens on Gloss, the finish most orders pick: a shiny laminate that makes colours look saturated and deep. Matte swaps the shine for a soft, glare-free surface that reads well under bright light and suits minimal, muted designs — see matte stickers for when to choose it. Clear is a transparent vinyl, so whatever is behind the sticker shows through the parts of your design without ink.

How long vinyl stickers last

Our vinyl is rated for three to five years outdoors. It is waterproof, UV resistant and scratch resistant, and the print and laminate survive repeated dishwasher cycles once the adhesive has cured — top rack, normal cycle, no heated dry is the gentlest way to wash a stickered bottle.

On a car, apply to glass or clear-coated paint rather than plastic trim, and keep the pressure washer away for the first 48 hours. Indoors, on a laptop or a notebook, a vinyl sticker will usually outlast the thing it is stuck to.

Where vinyl stickers go

Water bottles, laptops, car windows, helmets, notebooks, toolboxes and guitar cases — anything smooth and non-porous. That is the one real limit of vinyl: the adhesive needs full contact, so textured walls, canvas and unfinished wood only let it touch the high points and it will not hold for long.

Wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, and apply at room temperature rather than below 50°F. The adhesive reaches full strength in about a day, and from then on rain, sun and washing are part of the job.

Shapes and sizes

This page prices die cut vinyl stickers, cut to the outline of your design. The same vinyl is available as kiss cut stickers on a backing square, as circles, ovals, squares, rectangles and rounded-corner labels, and as sticker sheets with several designs on one backing.

Upload PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, AI, EPS or PSD files up to 25 MB — vector is best, a raster file should be 300 DPI at the printed size — and skip the cut line: we draw it from your artwork. Every order gets a free digital proof in your Proof Room showing the exact size, material and cut line. Changes are free and unlimited, and nothing goes on press until you approve it.
